Abstract:	一個世紀以來，雖然編目規則隨著科技環境的變化而不斷更新，科特(Charles Ammi Cutter)所提出的目錄功能：查詢、聚集和辨識，仍被廣泛引用。本文旨在了解目錄所具備的三大功能是否仍適用於現代的圖書館環境，以及目錄在現代圖書館裏所扮演的角色。 Over a century ago, Charles Ammi Cutter formulated functions of the library catalog as finding, gathering, and identifying bibliographic information. This formulation is still cited by library communities around the world even though the technology has made great impacts on the updating of cataloging rules. This paper attempts to find out that if, in the highly computerized library environment, the functions of catalog formulated by Cutter are still suitable for library and what kind of roles that the catalog would play.
