| Abstract: | 本文以山達基教會為例，探討新興宗教的宗教市場運作模式，透過田野調查，比較該教會在臺灣台北市及美國紐約市的實際運作狀況，並立基於宗教經濟理論的理性選擇命題，綜合前人的研究成果與筆者田野觀察所得，可歸納以下幾點結論：
一、宗教市場的運作和一般世俗商業的經濟市場運作類似，可分為供給面與需求面。在供給面方面，宗教供給者包括宗教團體與其產品；在需求面方面，宗教需求者則是信徒。
二、依照理性選擇概念，宗教市場與經濟市場類似，其供給者與需求者皆會追求利益最大化與成本最小化。
三、宗教信徒選擇宗教與否，會依照其宗教代價與利益的交換比率而定。
四、山達基教會的供給面，包括課程、聽析、訓練、服務、演講等等的提供。山達基信徒的需求面，主要指接受山達基各種協助之後所獲得的收穫。
五、研究顯示，美國與臺灣的山達基教會沒有太大的差別，其組織規模及運作模式如同企業運作一般，兩地山達基信徒的實際表現差異不大。
六、研究顯示，以山達基教會為例來看，新興宗教在宗教市場競爭中，其供給者與消費者在理性選擇的過程中，兩者有可能達到一種類似均衡的狀態。 |
