Abstract:	本書主要比較大陸、香港、臺灣新聞人員的社經背景與專業特質，主要內容包括新聞人員的社會、教育、經濟背景、工作滿意度、對新聞價值、自主權、媒介角色及各種倫理問題的態度與認知。作者在一九九六年七月至一九九七年四月間，對大陸、香港、臺灣新聞人員進行隨機抽樣調查，共訪問了1,647位大陸新聞人員，533位香港新聞人員與834位臺灣新聞人員，這是有史以來第一項以兩岸三地新聞人員為對象的比較研究。為了使這項研究能推陳出新，作者在設計每一研究主題時，均力求創新，並嘗試提出新的理論架構，希望從不同角度或採用不同的方法進行分析，以期擴展這些主題的研究與理論深度。作者希望這是一本能延續過去相關研究傳統，又具有新意與創見的著作。
