Abstract:	本書不同於一般學術思想史的論述模式，結合作者個人音樂文學涵養與專業史學知識的結晶。作者以多項新穎的主題重新詮釋晚清的經世史學，無論就論述手法或詮釋觀點而言，都為日後相關研究立下新的典範。本書論析晚清經世史學的諸種面向，論題包括從元史研究到邊疆史地的轉折、經今文學運動與變法論、經世思想與史學動向、外國史地引介、改編國史運動與歷史教育等內容。<br>作者從複音音樂的角度論析晚清史學，說明晚清經世史學的多旋律線，代表學者們探問經史以求新索的方式各出機杼；在論述過程中，作者指出經世思想為晚清史學的主題動機，並以民族主義為基調，而其對位主題則是追求富強。晚清的經世史學就是在這種時代變局與學術內部需求中，一步一步發展出來的。<br>
