Description:	前言：胡適(1891-1962)在1935年元月因接受香港大學頒贈的法學名譽博士學位,便作了生平第一次的南遊,在香港待了五天,在廣州住了兩天半,在廣西玩了十四天。[1](P197)他回去之後,便陸陸續續地將這次遊覽經過寫了出來,從是年二月完成《香港》一節、三月初寫就《廣州》一節、四月初前寫成《廣西山水》一節,一直到八月十二日才最終將《廣西的印象》一節脫稿。[2](P1347,P1353,P1403)雖然胡適在這篇遊記的序言中調侃自己:“天天用嘴吃喝,天天用嘴說話,嘴太忙,所以用眼睛耳朵的機會太少了。”因而前後二十多天之中,他竟沒有工夫記日記,再加上回家後又兩次患流行性感冒,“前後在床上睡了十天”,所以難免追憶起來印象模糊。[1](P197)言下之意,似乎為自己這篇遊記寫得不夠翔實周到而感到頗為遺憾。但若細讀全文,仍可發現胡適這篇遊記還是記載了許多豐富的考察遊覽內容,尤其在香港和廣州的部分並非只是單純的旅遊,還同時涉及了不少與學術、教育及社會文化活動有關的現象,如香港大學中文教學的改革與廣東執政當局所強力推動的讀經運動等…
