    Abstract: 聚集經濟 (Agglomeration economies) 乃是形成都市的重要原因之一(Hoover, 1975, O』Sullivan, 1996)。近年來許多學者認為生產力長期持續增加的原因，主要 是來自於資本的累積與研究發展(R&D)的投資，使得產品和製造過程的創新來提 高生產效率，國內外對於探討研究發展的外溢效果對廠商生產力影響之實證研究 頗多，如Mansfield (1977)、Griliches (1979)、Levin & Reiss (1984)、Jaffe (1986)、 Bernstein (1989)、陳忠榮、陳威勳 (1992)、陳惠瑜 (1995)、邱泰穎 (1997)、莊 奕琦、許碧峰 (1999)等，但上述之研究僅探討各產業之研究發展支出及存量等 在相同產業及不同產業間之影響，對於外溢效果在空間上之差異則並未探討。 Jacobs(1969)首先提出知識的外溢造成人口產業的聚集；後續不斷有學者提 出外溢效果在空間聚集上之效果，如Romer(1986，1990)、Lucas(1988)、Glaeser et al.(1992)、Henderson et al.(1995)、Jaffe et al(1993)、Saxenian(1996)、Rauch(1993) 及Ciccone and Hall(1996)。這些研究證實了知識外溢外空間上之集中對生產之重 要性。但是這些研究並未將距離及廠商規模大小考慮在內。 Berliant, Peng, and Wang(2002)則擴充了Fujita and Ogawa(1982)的區位潛在 機能函數至區域與區域間之平均距離，及納入Romer 人力資本的觀念，建立廠 商生產函數進行理論之探討，證實地區廠商間之距離及地區研究發展投資量之大 小所產生的外部效果對都市結構有重要之影響力，Berliant et al.之研究雖然解釋 研究發展外溢效果對都市結構之影響，但並未有實證之研究，因此本研究將以 Berliant et al.之理論模型為基礎，並參考Jaffe、Glaeser et al.、Henderson et al.、 莊 奕琦、許碧峰等前述之實證模型，為了強化研究發展之外溢效果在空間上之效 益，並利用GIS 以及空間統計，針對台灣地區85 年、90 年工商普查之製造業進 行實證分析，以明瞭研究發展在空間分佈之差異對台灣地區製造業之知識外溢效 果之影響，以作為未來工業發展策略及區位選擇之參考。
