Abstract:	在現代中國，暴力無所不在。本研究擬探討辛亥革命一直到一直到共產革命勝利為止，中國人看待暴力的方式，允許暴力的程度，他們指責甚麼樣的暴力？如何認定可以施加暴力的對象？隨著暴力的盛行，忍受痛覺的能力與態度是否也有同步的發展？同時，以暴力的理論與實踐為中心，本研究也打算探討那個時段裏中國人的精神與感情世界的變化、暴力在「文明/野蠻」的論述中位置如何？五四新文化運動中人道主義的觀念如何影響到暴力的文化位置？像魯迅這樣的人，如何觀察國共內戰中的暴力，痛覺如何被開發與利用？痛覺到底是一種定質的東西，不隨文化的發展而變動；抑或，痛覺擁有它自己的歷史？本研究希望為這些問題求得適當的解答。
