    Abstract: 永續發展及知識經濟是兩個廣受重視的研究領域，然而針對原生知識 的探討，卻尚未在這兩個領域裡受到應有的關注。一般而言，原生知識指的是一種未經書面記載、以口耳相傳方式為原住民族群世代相傳之傳統智慧。目前談知識經濟，基本面向都著眼於高科技方面的發展，實際上，我們有必要在臺灣原生知識體系這個極少受重視之面向上投入更多的關注與努力; 瞭解、維護臺灣原生知識體系不僅有助於擴充知識經濟之研究廣度與深度，對於促進臺灣之永續發展更是一件刻不容緩之重要工作。本三年期研究計畫的重心如下: 第一年將針對剛於2006年1月23日業經行政院核定通過之「國土復育策略方案暨行動計畫」以及已送至立法院準備審查之「國土復育條例 (草案)」內容進行詳盡的解析。第二年的研究重心在於探究能與原生知識體系相輔相成，適合原住民部落永續發展之產業。第三年的研究重心在於從國際化的視野定位台灣原生知識體系的重要性。
    The recognition of and emphasis on indigenous knowledge has been intensified by recent developments in environmentalism and feminism. Indigenous knowledge usually refers to unwritten knowledge preserved locally in oral traditions; such knowledge is seen to be particularly abundant in the knowledge of the natural environment and is critically important to the sustainable use of resources and balanced development. This paper analyzes Taiwan』s indigenous knowledge system from an institutional perspective and stresses the significance of indigenous knowledge for promoting a sustainable Taiwan. Take two of Taiwan』s indigenous tribes, Thao and Tsou, for example. The Thao are Taiwan』s smallest ethnic group, with a population of about 300 people who live in the surrounding area of Sun Moon Lake. The Tsou population is approximately 6,000 to 7,000 people, most of them living in the Alishan area. Alishan and Sun Moon Lake are two of the most famous scenic areas in Taiwan. Without the conventional wisdom of the Thao and Tsou, the natural environment of Sun Moon Lake and Alishan could not have been well preserved until today.
