"In this study, we applied face-to-face interview method to explore children’s cognitions, attitudes, and affections toward politics symbols in Taiwan. We would like to share our research with other students of children’s political socialization researches in Taiwan for improving research questionnaires.
Most children’s political socialization study in Taiwan employed structured questionnaires to explore children’s political orientations and attitudes. In this study, we sampled 64 students from grade 3 to grade 6 of primary school in Taipei, I-lan, and Taoyuan to conduct in-depth taped interviews. The
format of questionnaire used both open-ended items and semi-projective completions to explore children’s responses of political symbols. We employed verbatim response quotations to present our research. Comparing with other political socialization research and theories, children’s political socialization
study is relatively hard to apply structured questionnaires to explore their political orientation. We expect to provide different research method to refine political socialization research of children in Taiwan. "
