This study examines how newspapers and television stations report the campaign and candidates during the 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008 Presidential Election in Taiwan and explores how political bias in the election news influences voters』 knowledge about the candidates and issues. Based on 「selective credibility」 and 「confirmation bias,」 this study predicts that voters will seek and recall media messages that are supportive of the candidates they favor and not to seek and recall messages supporting the candidates they disapprove. Thus, a higher level of media use will be associated with greater confirmatory knowledge.
