    Abstract: 當代政治經濟學者對於民主化與經濟發展之間的關係，至今尚無定論。究竟是民主化促進經濟發展，是經濟發展導至民主化，是兩者互為因果，還是兩者互不相關，都有不同的理論與實證資料支持。本研究計劃主張經濟發展與民主化之間的關係，不是直接的因果關係，而是受到「政治經濟策略結構」這一中介變項的影響。政治經濟策略結構的類型，是由兩個指標構成：一是資本是否集中。略G個指標是市場導向，是搘~向型或是內向型。這兩個指標組合成四種政治經濟策略結構：(1)資本集中─外向市場型，(2)資本集中─內向市場型，(3)資本分散─外向市場型，以及(4)資本分散─內向市場型。從這四個類型的分析中，推論出一個國家的民主化是否順利成功，除了一些獨立的政治因素以外，最主要的是，在民主化發生的前後，是否存在著適合的政治經濟策略結構，幫助民主化的政治企業家及其支持者，能夠較輕易的生根、發芽、和成長。而民主化是否能導至經濟進一步的發展，也決定於民主化是否先能促成一有v爭力的政治經濟策略結構的形成。本研究計劃擬同時以多國回歸分析和四個東亞個案研究(南韓、台灣、泰國、菲律賓)為例，說明政治經濟策略結構在政治民主化與經濟發展之間，所扮演的角色。
