    Abstract: 尚書之文，讀者常苦其奧澀，如能明其語例，亦可觸類旁通，遂亦不覺其費解。夷考所謂語例，或重見於一篇之內，或頻用于他卷之中。如謂民曰有眾，謂國曰有邦。天子自稱曰予一人，幼君自稱曰予小子。謂爾君為乃辟，稱各地為多方。不盡職守曰昏棄，祇遵上命曰靈承，難信則曰棐忱，不祥則曰弗弔。邪僻則曰憸人，農耕則曰穡事。此於當時皆為習用之語，而於後世則屬須釋之辭。至如咸秩無文，孺子其朋；迭見於洛誥，旅王若公，面稽天若；屢載於召誥。致天之罰，明于湯誓，閱實其罪，著於呂刑。凡斯所舉，皆屬語例，難盡列焉。茲摭拾其關於數字者，彙而釋之，曰數字篇。至於尚書有今古文之分，其篇目有真偽之考，前人述之詳矣。茲篇乃據通行本而採錄，旨在銓釋有關數字之意義，於其考據之爭，非所辨也。
