The project “Infant Studies: The Ontogeny and Development of Mental Activity” aims to establish a platform of resources that provides people doing research with infants convenient and efficient access to latest published books on related topics. The NCCU library can also expand its collection through the funding of this project. Mental ontogeny is a focus of research in many disciplines: comparative, cognitive, and developmental psychology; social and cognitive neurosciences; psychopathology; pediatrics; and robotics. As a result of its multidisciplinary approaches, we choose and plan the collection of books that promotes integrated research on related topics not only between key areas within psychology but also between psychology and other emerging research areas. There are relatively few books on infant and child psychology in the NCCU library though, compared to books on business and social sciences, for which the university is known. The Psychology Department has been attempting to integrate cognitive neuroscience with research in humanities and social sciences. To facilitate integrated research programs, the recently established Research Center of Mind, Brain and Learning (RCMBL) and Taiwan Mind & Brain Imaging Center serve as a catalyst for corroborations across a range of disciplines. If this project could be funded, we believe that the book resources will encourage faculty members to develop innovative interdisciplinary research. We used Endnote X6 to search online bibliographies and library collections of world-famous universities based on research subjects and keywords. Only the books published after 2000 (or in press) and written in English were targeted. The number of books initially selected is 2,288. After removing duplicate copies, the Collection Planning Committee selected 1,396 books, in which the number of duplicated volumes is 398, with a duplicate rate of 28.51%. The total price is NT. 2,626,060.
