Abstract:	軍機處亦稱辦理軍機處，係清朝特有之制度。始屬臨時設置，演變所至，終成「掌軍國大政，以贊機務」之中樞機構(註一)。清史稿軍機大臣年表序言謂：「軍機處名不師古，而絲綸出納，職居密勿。初祇秉廟謨，商戎略而已。厥後軍國大計，罔不總攬。自雍正朝後百八十年，威命所寄，不於內閣而於軍機處，蓋隱然執政之府矣」（註二），頗能道其真貌。本文分別就其設置之原因、時間、定名定制，及直廬所在加以敘述。
