This grant application aims to raise funds to support a series of winter/summer camps in cognitive neuroscience designed for 2nd to 5th graders. The broad and long-term objectives of the camps are to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science, and ultimately advance the studies of mind and brain that lead to better understanding of mental processing and mental health. The contents of the camps include lectures, laboratory tour, hands-on activities, and games. The camps run for 3 days without accommodation and will train 100 children. The first day will cover child-friendly lectures that introduce organization and mechanism of brain structure. The second day will cover cognitive processing, mental disorders, and the corresponding brain function. The camp will end by introducing neuroscience techniques including fMRI and ERP. Through the lens of incorporating all these lectures and presentation to children, we seek to ultimately promote public interests in cognitive neuroscience, promote studies on pediatric samples in local institutes, and provide graduate students unique training of practices in cognitive neuroscience.
