    Abstract: 本論文是針對台灣、朝鮮半島的日本語文學、日本近代文學三者之间的作品進行比較。首先關於殖民地作家的作品，所矚目的是台灣張文環的〈父親的要求〉、吳濁流的《亞細亞的孤兒》、和朝鮮半島牧洋的〈東行〉。此三部作品有一個共通的特點，就是主角人物在東京留學時都分別寄宿於一戶遺孀之家。該家庭的成員往往只有母女二人，而且主角們都同時愛戀上該名獨生女，卻苦於本身的民族出身問題無法堅持初衷，最後選擇離開。基於日本近代文學作品，特別是夏目漱石的《心》中有著極為相似的背景設定，本論文重新檢討《心》中遺孀之家的意義，發現其中的關鍵除了在於先行研究所稱它無家長存在可供男主角重建家長意識之外，只育有一女的寡母無依無靠的心態同時也促使了租賃雙方進一步發展家庭關係。
    而日本語文學中的家庭可以說亦帶有同樣的性質，只不過，對男主角們來說，那不止於個人感情的次元，還牽涉到能不能正式成為「日本人」的嚴肅問題。儘管表面上未見任何阻礙，但他們還是過度意識民族問題的原因隱藏於「父親不在」這一要素當中。再加上遺孀體現的包容力這一點，遺孀之家等於兼具了一正一反的兩種功能；而這正相通於日本殖民地統治之兩大原理：「血統差別主義」和「言語統合主義」。透過這些特質，可以論證出文本中遺孀之家的記號學價值在於它極有可能是日本殖民帝國的隱喻裝置。
