Title:	「守門人」之理論與實際

Abstract:	新聞工作者居於現代知識傳播樞紐，即是守門者的地位（gatekeeper）；守門者的重要性基於二點，一是社會能獲取多少新聞，完全是決定於守門者，二是如何行使守門者職權，才能使社會獲得利益，避免公眾受到損害。而原是心理實驗大師的李溫（Kurt Lewin），即是守門人理論創建的始祖。本文在介紹守門者理論的方面，以卡特博士（Roy E. Carter, Jr.）的三項研究調查為例，分別是研究醫生職業和新聞工作者之間的關係、學校行政監督與報界關係、新聞工作者與本地政府官員之間的關係。而最典型的新聞守門人則是為電訊編輯，主宰國際與國內新聞取捨的編輯人，決定新聞的取捨。大衛．懷特（David Manning White）在一九五零年發表的「守門者新聞選擇的專案研究」是最具代表性的研究，保羅．史奈德（Paul B. Snider）則在懷特個案調查後十七年，以懷特的研究為基礎，再做了一次守門人的研究。最後，對於盡責的守門人，本文認為應有兩點責任：第一，在消極方面，守門人應建立良好的公眾關係。第二，守門人雖不可能保持完全的客觀，但如何避免處理新聞時的偏見，是守門人不可缺少的修養。
