Abstract:	「東西方研究中心」（The East-West Center，簡稱EWC）又稱為「東西方文化暨技術交流中心」（The Center for Cultural and Technical Interchange Between East and West），是由美國國會在1960年成立於夏威夷，並與夏威夷大學合作，目的是藉由美國與亞洲、太平洋各國在研究、學術訓練等方面的研究，促進東西雙方間的友好關係。 EWC每年約有兩千名來自東方與西方的研究人員，在美國的資助下從事相關研究，但過去並沒有系統性的從心理文化的角度，研究關於這些受資助的研究者在EWC中從事研究的期望與實際獲得的滿足。本文以EWC內300名碩士研究生作為研究對象，試圖分析這些研究者來到EWC時所抱持的期望，以及實際上獲得多少滿足？本文分成兩部分，第一部分利用Q分析測試這300名研究者來到EWC所環抱的期望，發現可歸納出四種期望，分別是（一）中心優點（Center Merits）；（二）社會讚許性（Social Desirability）；（三）學術追求（Academic Pursuit）；（四）跨文化交流（Intercultural Interaction）；其中也發現亞洲人較傾向於前兩項期望，而美國人則傾向後兩項。第二部分則是接續第一部分所測量出的四種期望，援引「人口過渡理論」（Demographic Transition）來解釋這300名研究者實際進入EWC後，獲得的滿足程度為多少。
