Abstract:	美國報業的發展在一九七零年後期，已經躍升為美國大眾傳播事業的第一位，本文主旨係針對美國報業的現況發展，就其發生的問題，提出分析與討論。美國報業能不斷成長，主要是因為它的利潤豐厚，同時報業的鞏固合併趨勢也讓它成為一個龐大的企業組織，但衍伸出來的就是報業競爭與報業所有權的問題。事實上，美國報紙發生所有權集中的問題非近年才有，本文針對報業所有權其中的問題，整理了不同立場的反應以及試圖釐清所有權集中的原因。報業所有權集中進一步造成的就是競爭減少與壟斷增加的情勢，這可以用雨傘假說（Umbrella Hypothesis）來解釋。但當報團膨脹之際，發生了關於美聯社的案子，顯示出政府使用基本權利保障新聞自由，並且表明了政府反報業托辣斯的態度。另外，針對報業所有權集中的部分，本文在文末也提出幾個問題供讀者討論，並對政策提出對應的問題，希望政府能鼓勵新報紙的建立，彌補報紙競爭消失的缺點。
