Abstract:	本文主旨在探討經濟組織與大眾媒介之互動關係，如何決定了媒介內容。作者並不認為經濟力量是左右文化產物（如媒介內容）的唯一因素，或最重要的條件。相對的，他認為國家或其他政治因素，優勢文化，及媒介從業人員的「自主性」等都會影響媒介內容的產出。不過，作者強調，要分析大眾傳播之變動現象，應以經濟結構之分析為起點，這是過去一般學者所忽略的研究途徑。結論中作者認為，過去研究大眾媒介對社會的作用，一方面太過重視媒介與國家的關係，忽略了經濟因素（資本主義私有制）對傳播工具的控制；另一方面，則太過強調內容分析的結果，因為這些符號上、文意上的分析並非很可靠的「證據」。
