This study investigates the relationships of field-dependent/ field-independent(FD/FI) cognitive style to the perception of color images with respect to preference for display layouts and performance of image matching. Results of the study do not support the hypotheses that cognitive style would be the primary predictor of performance on image matching task. However, results from this study show that different treatments make differences between FD/FI for the preference of display layouts. It appears obvious that image quality assessment is correlated with those of ease of search evaluation. Implications for curriculum and system design are proposed.
