Love is a major theme in popular music, no matter in eastern or western culture. Since the 1960s, popular music has been studied seriously by western humanists and social scientists. However, there has been a lack of systematic research in music culture in Taiwan. This study intends to analyze how popular music (re) presents love in lyrics content. This study combines quantitative and qualitative content analysis methods to examine 278 songs sampled from top ten in Dragon-Tiger Golden Songs from 1989 to 1998. The findings reveal that what Taiwan`s popular music represents is a love world which lacks physical desire, but is full of sadness resulted from separation, and contains sexual biases. Furthermore, this constructed world is far behind changes in real world.
