    Abstract: 中國1917年的白話文運動，提倡以平民的白話代替傳統的文言，遂而引發了新舊文學雙方的對峙與論辯。當時的中國，由於政府教育政策的訂定，使得白話的傳播迅速獲得確立與保障。相較於中國白話文運動在短短幾年便能推展順利，台灣則是歷經漫長的鏖戰，最終要到戰後國民政府來台後，白話文才取得絕對的優勢。日治惠期的台灣，由於日文是官方語文，當時的白話或文言漢文其實都無法取得主流的優勢地位。
