This article explores the dilemma facing Taiwan`s sport and democracy-Taking competitive sports as an example. From the perspective of sports sociology, Sports institutions, systems, and the distribution of sports resources are three distinct indicators of "democracy." Taiwan`s sports organizations have sports committees in the official central government and the Sports Department of the Ministry of Education; local sports bureaus and the highest level of non-governmental sports associations (general) and Olympic committees; local counties (cities) have sports associations and individual associations. It can be said to be an imitation of a system of "public-private cooperation" in the United States, However, this cooperative operation mode between civil society and the state often involves the problems of inter-organizational rights and responsibilities and resource allocation. This article uses literature to discuss and list three cases of Xie Shuwei`s Olympic retirement, Dai Ziying`s jersey incident, and this (2021) East Olympics economy class incident to discuss the cooperation and confrontation behind the sport, as well as the power and control. The contradictions and conflicts between the two are worthy of our thoughts.
