In 2022, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) redefined the concept of museums, emphasizing their role as public spaces committed to education, diversity, sustainability, and community engagement. As visitor behaviors shift and digital technologies rapidly evolve, the educational functions and learning environments of museums are also undergoing transformation. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the digital transformation of museums.
This study explores how museums can promote educational innovation through digital strategies, using the National Palace Museum in Taiwan as a case study. Data was collected through literature analysis and in-depth expert interviews, targeting professionals from three departments within the museum: the Department of Registration and Conservation, the Department of Exhibition Services, and the Department of Digital Information. By conducting cross-analysis of literature and interview data, the study examines the National Palace Museum’s specific practices in implementing digital educational strategies and analyzes the impact of digitalization on educational innovation in museums. It also identifies key influencing factors and challenges encountered in this process.
Based on the findings, the study proposes recommendations for the National Palace Museum's future development, including: establishing an integrated platform for digital and educational coordination; developing audience research and user feedback systems; adjusting design approaches to balance exhibition and educational applications; and incorporating educational innovation into long-term funding frameworks for digital cultural resources.
