| Abstract: | 電子期刊在1960年代未期出現，由於網路與數位科技進步，而在1990年代開始興起，藉由網路與電腦提供取用，由於其增加許多優點，如容易檢索、取得全文、不受時空限制，與超連結功能而深受學者、出版社、與資料庫商的喜愛，許多科技與醫學期刊改成電子期刊出版。Tenopir教授的系列研究顯示各學門對電學術期刊使用有所差異。社會科學家與科學家使用閱讀期刊行為有所不同，王梅玲研究發現證實了台灣的社會科學學者重視電子期刊與英文期刊的使用，但其學術期刊行為確實與美國科學教師有所不同，尤其法學院教師更與其他教師不同其較多閱讀中文期刊與紙本期刊。由於過去研究多偏重科技期刊的使用，故社會科學學者使用學術期刊以及跨國文化的電子期刊使用值得探討。近年大中華崛起，喚起全世界對於中華社會與文化的重視，其也逐漸在全球的社會、經濟、文化、科技各項發展帶來影響，而且中文學術期刊出版至少7,000種，相當多元與豐富，分別在台灣與中國二國綻放花朵。因此以比較與跨國文化的觀點，對社會科學家電子期刊使用行為進行研究是重要而值得探討。本計畫主持人在2009年參訪美國University of Tennessee與傳播與資訊研究中心主任Tenopir教授研討，她十分贊同此研究議題的重要，表示有興趣與本計畫主持人合作，並願意提供其科學家期刊使用研究的數據資料作對照，共同合作研究美國社會科學家電子期刊使用研究資料的蒐集，所以促成本計畫書提出。本研究將從比較與跨國文化的觀點探討台灣、中國、美國社會科學學者電子期刊使用研究，研究目的有四：(1)電子期刊對大中華社會科學學者研究工作的重要價值。(2) 台灣、中國、美國社會科學家電子期刊使用與閱讀行為為何？(3) 台灣、中國、美國電子期刊出版與資料庫現況如何？是否影響三國社會科學學者使用電子期刊行為？(4)從跨國文化的觀點比較三國社會科學學者使用電子期刊行為之異同，並探討影響因素與歸納社會科學家電子期刊使用模式。本計畫針對台灣、中國、與美國進行三國社會科學學者研究，將進行三年，第一年進行三國電子期刊出版與學者資訊行為研究。第二年進行三國電子期刊使用與閱讀問卷調查研究。第三年進行跨國文化的三國電子期刊使用與閱讀行為比較研究。本研究係為社會科家電子期刊使用的跨國文化比較研究，故運用多種研究方法，包括田野調查、問卷調查、關鍵事件以及比較研究等。本計畫對三國社會科學家以及電子期刊資料庫作研究，預計進行三年，從民國99年8月到102年7月在台灣、中國、與美國三國八所大學針對1,800位社會科學教師進行研究，由政治大學王梅玲主持並與美國University of Tennessee 的Carol Tenopir教授，中國大陸南京大學的葉繼元教授與武漢大學的肖希明教授合作跨國研究。
As E-journals are important information resources for scientists, there are a variety of research achievement on E-journals use and reading in science, technology and medicine academic researchers. The goals of the project is to investigate information seeking and E-journal use and readings of social scientists in China, Taiwan, and the United States with cross cultural studies, and to make comparisons on country, cultural context, languages of E-journals, subject disciplines, print and electronic version to explore the main factors influencing differences. The studies on E-journals use and reading of social scientists will be helpful to develop E-journal information systems and databases, and also can provide references to library building collections and services. As present studies on E-journals using and reading mainly aim at science, technology and medicine scientists, and rarely on scholars in humanities and social sciences, As a whole, E-journals use studies are unbalanced and incomplete. The E-journals use studies on social scientists will balance the above issues, expand the research arena of E-journals use study, and provide different approaches from subject disciplines. As this a cross-culturally and comparatively E-journals use studies, there are multiple research methods conducted in the project, including field study with in-depth interviewing, questionnaire survey, and comparative study. The project is will take three years to carry out beginning August 1, 2010 and concluding July 31,2013 at nine to eight universities in China, Taiwan and the United States with an international and cooperative project teams from the three countries. The project will be consisted of three parts; First, we use qualitative methods of field study to investigate E-journals publishing and to research on information seeking and scholarly journals use behavior of social scientists in China, Taiwan and the United States. Second, the questionnaire survey will be conducted to collect the data on E-journals seeking, use and reading patterns of faculty members in social sciences in universities in three countries. Finally, the comparative studies will be conducted to make comparisons with E-journal publishing, information seeking behavior, E-journals use and reading patterns among China, Taiwan, and the United States. |
