The Communist Party of the Russian Federation formally rebuilt its organization in early 1993. Within a few short years it has won two parliamentary elections, has become the largest political party in Russia, and its leader G. Zuganov is one of the most prominent candidates for the Russian presidential election in the year of 2000. The Communist Party has reached these achievements largely owing to the transformation of the party itself, and the political and economic chaos caused by Mr. Yeltsin`s reforms. Although the Communist party can influence the process of decision-making, the president`s constitutional powers can always overcome communist boycotts; thus Mr. Yeltsin leads the game. Even if the Communist Party can win the power of administration in the near future, changes in the political environment will make Russian communists act differently from their predecessors.
