Abstract:	機讀編目格式（MARC）發展迄今已有40年的歷史，為了因應21世紀的來臨及多項新型態的資源發展，USMARC與CAN/MARC經由協調後整合，而有MARC 21的產生，其目的是促進書目格式的交換。本文將由MARC 21的發展談起，並介紹其發展過程，組成結構、運作方式及實用性的探討。 MARC has been developed for about 40 years. A new MARC 21 format, integrated with USMARC and CAN/MARC, is being designed for the coming twenty-first century and the generations of the various materials. For the purpose of promoting bibliographic format exchange, this paper describes the development and the history of MARC 21, followed by an analysis of its structure, implementation methods, and applications.
