Innovative alternative education needs to encompass novel ideas while being feasible solutions that differ from the mainstream one. However, only when ideas and actions are consistent, will it be possible to achieve the ideal [what] and the mission. This paper uses the Sathya Sai School in Thailand as an example and describes its principles as a reference model. Five essential principles were determined when the school was established. They are to: actively cultivate innate goodness of the individual, strive for the truth, embrace inner peace and promote peace, love others like you love yourself, abide right conduct and nonviolence practice. The principles are essentially based on humanism that the school values, therefore, not only are these five closely related but also are indispensable. Art-ong Jumsai, the school’s founder, firmly believes that equal access to key educational resources is a fundamental right and cultivating good and honest people take precedence over creating a great man in school. After twenty eight years of effort, the school is internationally renowned for its integration of humanistic values into the curriculum and teaching materials. The school uses and develops renewable energy resources, operates organic farming, promotes environmental protection, and, especially, the school is free to attend— affirming and successfully implementing the egalitarian principle of equal opportunity to education resources in practice. At the moment, crucial need in transforming small schools to achieve equitable outcomes for all students, the Sathya Sai School is one of the few good reference models worth following.
