This paper examined the influence of negative political news frames on people`s responses to campaign coverage. Adopting a multiple-method approach, we identified two news frames, namely, issue frame and image frame. In addition, our experiment induced political cynicism and attribution of responsibility. One hundred eighty students participated in the experimental study, in which they read and responded to different amount of negative news and frames of news. The result demonstrated that while the main effects of news frames were not significant both in inducing political cynicism and attribution of responsibility to politicians, participants were more likely to generate cynical reaction and hold politicians responsible for Taiwan`s problems when being exposed to more negative news.
